Rockyard Brewery – Castle Rock Colorado – Micro Brewery
by BrewDude on May.20, 2009, under Brew Reviews, Micro Breweries
We live nice and close to Rockyard so it’s SWEET that I really love their brews! They offer their sampler flights at a great rate and it’s cold and fresh and……. well you need to come and check it out for yourself.
First the atmosphere there is kinda perfect, lots of big TV’s to watch no matter where you sit in the bar and you can seat yourself there. My wife likes to sit right in front of the big stone fireplace that separates the dining room from the bar area. There are also pool tables behind the biggest screen and that area ALSO has TV’s. The food there is great with a few notable must trys including the stuffed garlic knots and the jalapeno soup. They not only brew beer but also make homemade root beer and cream soda if you have kids along with you.
Note the Bronco Horse over the Bar!
Now for the local Colorado brews!
They have 6 brews all the time and then some other seasonals to choose from.
ROCKYARD BREWS ARE AVAILABLE IN A 16 OZ. GLASS FOR $4.00
5 ounce Sampler Glasses of our beers are $1.25 each.
The Rockyard Brewing Company Double
Eagle Ale – Jim’s Pick
Gold Medal Winner
American Wheat Ale GABF 2003
This is their award American Filtered Wheat Ale with 5% alcohol content.
The flagship of their brews, I have to admit that this one is always a favorite and is very smooth and flavorful.
The Lightning Strike Stout – Chrissy’s Pick
This is their Dark rich Ale with the Coffee/Nutty/Chocolate tones.. according to the wife this is really good.. I have to fight her to get to sip it… she even ordered another glass of it.

My Wife is Cheating on me! with beer tasting that is!
by admin on May.06, 2009, under Brew Events, Brew Reviews, Bronco Coaching, Bronco Defense, Broncos Offense, Denver Sports, Micro Breweries
Well… that is she’s enjoying a flight of micro brews in Grand Junction without me and had the NERVE to send me a photo of her flight of beer and her great looking pizza. I guess you’d say she’s BEER cheating!
She’s at Kannah Creek Brewery right across the street from Mesa State College… Coincidence?? I don’t think so! Funny thing is that when we met 3 years ago I only drank Bud light, and hated wine and she only drank wine and hated beer other than Blue Moon. Flash forward to now… her favorite brews are porters and stouts… I guess this makes sense… they do mostly have chocolate in them in some fashion and us guys all know how women feel about CHOCOLATE! And the only wine I like is a Cab or Pino Noir.. and she’s all into Stouts and Porters. I guess you’d say we are expanding each others’ horizons!
So here is her report on the beer there without my knowledgeable expertise to influence her. She doesn’t really care for IPA’s, so no review for them.
Her favorite.. no big surprise was the Pigasus Porter. Description: Dark brown with emphasis on CHOCOLATE and roasted nuts with a lingering coffee taste.. Hello.. who wouldn’t love that?! Followed closely by the Black Bridge Stout (We also really like Black Bridge wine and have been to that winery on the western slope of CO) This one also has the infamous chocolate, coffee and roasted flavors and a bit of carbonation to give it a creamy head. Man am I jealous she is there without me! Island Mesa Blonde Ale comes in third. This has a a slightly hoppy flavor and is very light.. for those new to the micro-brews… this is a great one to try says my neophyte beer drinking wife… She didn’t care for the Hefe called Highside
Hefeweisen she said it has the “Bleckhy” micro-brew taste! Sooo technical… and the Lands End Amber was quite tasty also. She enjoyed these with the Basil and Tomato Pizza with freshly grated cheese on top. Very good.
I’ve been to this pub myself a few times and the atmosphere is very homey with a great patio out front. The regular crowd is a mixture of locals, college students and a few tourists from the front range like us. If you are ever in Grand Junction Colorado make sure and stop by for a flight!
Prescott Brewing- What a Flight!
by Broncoblogger on May.02, 2009, under Brew Events, Brew Reviews, Micro Breweries

Double the Pleasure!
The last place we went was The Prescott Brewery. They had the option of each of their brews in a flight. Many different flavors and textures. They have what is called a flight of beer( this consists of up to 9-5 oz glasses of there different brews for only 1 buck per glass!). Like many places, it starts with a lighter beer and ends with a Porter.
Normally, I always have a favorite brew I pick when I have a flight, the Willow Wheat beer was it. It’s the empty one up front with only the lemon peel left! Damn Good.
One thing I like about the brews there is they were all smooth, had great flavor and none of them gave me the dreaded “bitter beer face”.
The most amazing part is my wife, the non beer drinker, loved the Willow wheat beer and the Petrified Porter, so much we had to get more!
If you like beer and ever visit Prescott, AZ. Stop by the Prescott Brewery, you will not be disappointed!!
finding new brews
by Broncoblogger on May.02, 2009, under Brew Events, Brew Reviews, Micro Breweries
Last week, my wife and I took a road trip to Arizona.
Being the brew guy I am we decided to visit some different mico brewery’s. The first place we went was the Office, had a brew called Lift your kilt. Very tasty, would have lifted my kilt had I been wearing one! Had a brew at Murphys called Rouge Dead Guy, interesting flavor to go along with the name.
